After Samrat Kaushal and Devarshi Patel, the next on the list of new Roadies is Bhanu Pratap. Names can be definitely misleading. The finest example to prove this statement right is our next Roadie from Ahmedabad – Bhanu Pratap. When such a name is heard for the first time, the obvious reaction is that he must be a tall, strong built, short tempered guy with a complete no-nonsense attitude.

On the contrary, our Bhanu Pratap is a very short guy, about 5feet 5 inches, using his hair almost three inches long to add to his height. He has piercing on his chin and bothe ears. He is a cool and chilled out average youth with stooping shoulders. The way he sat for the interview showed his laid back attitude towards life as he was completely at ease with legs spread out. A rare sight when the person is already intimidated by the mere presence of twin tormentors- Raghu Ram and Rajiv Lakshman.

Raghu gave him a new hair-do as he wanted to see how short he actually is. Raghu said “Tu Thinga hai na!” (you are dwarf no!). The hair stylist was immediately called in and effect was phenomenal. Bhanu Pratap was asked some very uncomfortable questions which he answered without showing any signs of embarrassment. He told the judges that one of the weirdest things he has done is to go to the Petrol Pump in his boxers only. The brothers went a step ahead and asked him to strip to his boxers there and then to authenticate his claim. In no time, we saw this short and lanky guy in polka dot boxers. Bhanu didn’t immediately become camera shy sitting like that and laughed off when the brothers made him the butt of all jokes.

The few things which strike the mind on hearing the word ‘roadie’ are go-getter spirit, oodles of attitude, restless mind and a free spirit. The man in question apparently has none of these qualities, but he is still a Roadie in the current season. It’s none other than a typical pot bellied businessman type Gujju, Devarshi Patel who has surprisingly found a place for himself in this show.

He was a complete show stealer as nobody could have ever imagined him to get selected. The judges called him for the interview as he appeared interesting to them in the Group Discussion. Undoubtedly, he didn’t prove the judgment of the twin brothers wrong.

Eveything about 21 years old (hard to believe!!)  Devarshi Patel was different from the other shortlisted contestants. Starting from the appearance, he was probably the only guy who turned up for this interview in a formal shirt and trousers. His spectacles only added to the seriousness of his look. He related a sad story of his one sided love for a girl on being questioned about his relationship status.

The judges were amused with his weird gestures. Just before he started singing a song of movie ‘Rock On’, he removed his spectacles and donned glares. He explained that this would help him feel like a rock star.  If this wasn’t enough, his mimicry was totally hilarious. He enacted a scene from the movie ‘Sarrkar’. It was funny to see him imitate Amitabh Bachchan in the ‘Govinda Govinda’ act. The judges Raghu and Rajiv burst into wild laughter.

Ahmadabad auditions gave the organizers four roadies for the season 6. The first suitable Roadie for the long and arduous journey is Samrat Kaushal, a man with a never-die-spirit. He had a winner’s attitude and this really impressed the judges. His interview went on smoothly which is so unlike the other occasions when the contestants feel dejected and worthless in just a few minutes of interaction.

Samrat comes from army background. When the judges asked him the stereotype ‘tell me about yourself’ question, he related the story of his poignant childhood when his father would whack him with belts. His father was in infantry and Punjabi, which according to him is a terrible combination when it comes to corporal punishment meted out to children.

He plays lawn-tennis, he is a swimmer, athlete, fond of physical fitness. He has been living in Mumbai for a few years now, and he is in a long term relationship with his girl-friend for more than two years.

Samrat told the judges how he had to struggle to earn the respect of his tough father. To do this, and show his strength to his dad, he swam 12 hours non-stop ina swimming pool, a distance of about 16KM, that is just not so easy. The judges took an instant liking for the strong willed boy after hearing his story. He was asked to show his strength by bending and taking support of his knees for almost 5 minutes. He was asked to pretend that he is sitting on a chair while he is balancing his body with knees bent. Its damn painful. During this time, judges asked him to make a mental calculation of the seventh decimal place of ‘pi(22/7)’. He did not give up and showed that he indeed was a true Roadie material.

Date: 24th September 2008, Wednesday.

Address: Town Hall, Opp. Sakar II, Ellis Bridge, Ahmedabad

The wait is finally over. Roadies is back with a bang and this time it really hurts more than it ever did!! The telecast of the sixth season of the most popular youth reality show kicked off today with the first set of auditions. For the first time auditions happened in Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat.

There has been a big change which may garner mixed opinion from viewers. Rannvijay the first roadie and the man, who hosted the earlier seasons was missing. It seems that he has been replaced by another roadie Ayushmaan.  Though it’s too early to draw comparisons, but the female viewers have certainly got a reason to complain!

The town hall was hounded by hordes of crazy young people trying to get footage on camera. The initial method chosen to narrow down the search for Roadies was a Group discussion. The GD was moderated by Ranjit (Chottu), Clyde (self proclaimed sex God) and surprisingly, the boss himself, Ashish Patil. A select few interesting people were shortlisted for the final interview.

The twin terror was indeed a nightmare for the people. Raghu Ram and his twin brother Rajiv Lakshman lived up to all the hype that has been created about the one-on- one session. They pushed the people to their limits and asked all sorts of difficult and uncomfortable questions. Surprisingly, Raghu who is otherwise known as a tormentor was calmer and he let Rajiv enjoy his first brush with the limelight. We have to admit; Rajiv was blunt and cynical and gave all the shortlisted people a hard time.

* Australia is the international destination chosen for Roadies 6.0. It’s a well known fact that a large part of the continent is uninhabited due to unsuitable conditions and deadly terrains. Surviving in this adventure show only gets tougher this time.

* It’s a scientific fact that there are more ways of dying due to the uneven natural topography and diverse physical features in Australia than anywhere else in the world. The Roadies journey this time would be quite life threatening as well.

* The venues for audition this time are:

1. Chandigarh

2. Delhi

3. Mumbai

4. Bangalore

5. Ahmedabad

6. Kolkata

*The show will be hosted by not one but two former roadies, Ranvijay and Bani J this time. The prize money has also been doubled this time to whopping 10 lakhs this time.

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…

If that reminds of the Golden Words written on The Statue of Liberty, you are grossly mistaken my dear readers. That should be underlying message of the show which has given us respite from the boring, monotonous and unusually predictable K soaps. The game show which took the Generation Y by storm five years back and has only got better with each season. No points for guessing, it’s indeed MTV Roadies, the brainchild of Raghu Ram.

It’s coming back. Gear up for the adrenaline rush and the high action packed drama. The auditions are over and the Roadies have already been selected. The show which took the whole generation Y by storm will soon be aired for the sixth consecutive year. This is the first Indian reality adventure show which witnessed great success in the first season itself. Its one show which is completely of the youth, by the youth and for the youth. There is just no room for preachers in the show which brings out the wild side of eccentric young generation.

Raghu Ram, Executive Producer MTV said, “Those who think they have figured out Roadies, the auditions or the journey are in for the shock of their lives. Getting selected or surviving the auditions itself is going to be twice as tough with Rajiv.” After the super success of Season 5, the season 6 will be an absolute entertainer. To make things tougher and meaner Raghu’s brother Rajiv was also made a part of audition process which recently got over. Auditions have never been a easy as the contestants are grilled to the core to check their ability to take on the pressure and dangers which the long hard journey of a Roadie encompasses.

Akshsay Kumar Declared the results of Big Boss 2 Jumbo Finale, Ashutosh Kaushik wins Rs 1 Crore Cash. Zulfi Syed and Raja are out of competition.

The dhababoy, the rustic man and the obscure, unknown Sahranpur lad has done it again. Ashutosh Kaushik is the winner of the Bigg Boss Season 2.  Unbelievable!! Did some one not once beautifully remark that ‘Best things happen in life when you least expect them to happen’.

big-boss-2-winner

Ashutosh is indeed a ‘destiny child’. Amongst all the big names vying for the title he was the weakest contender as he had only one show to his credit ‘Roadies’. The other housemates were all well established in the industry and well known in the entertainment fraternity. This goes on to prove that the fan following of the popular youth adventure show is so huge that it actually managed to bring this boy to the top.

Ashutosh hails from a very small town in Uttar Pradesh. The results testify that any individual cannot be underestimated on the basis of his roots or his past. Another thing which must be highlighted here is that audience has become very powerful as the final verdict is in their hands. The audience has favored him because they must have felt that his needs were greater than Raja Kaushik or Zulfi Syed. We can’t undermine the power which has been rested in the hands of the viewers and no wonder, Indian viewers are exercising their power in full force.

The Jumbo Finale was a treat to watch. Shilpa Shetty looked absolutely stunning and hosted the show with lot of panache. She beautifully managed the thin line between anxiety about results and unnecessary dragging which generally vexes the viewers. The event was start studded as Akshay Kumar graced the finale in an effort to promote his upcoming movie ‘Jumbo’. No points for guessing why the finale got such a name!!

All the housemates who got evicted during the course of the show gave mesmerizing performances. Rakhi Sawant, housemate in the Bigg Boss Season 1, kick started the finale with her sizzling item number. Ravi Kissen danced to the tuned of ‘Om Shanti Om’ in which Diana Hayden and Ehsaan Qureshi also gave ‘blink and miss’ appearance. All the rumors about Sambhavna’s foot injury were proved wrong when she put the stage on fire with her performance. Payal Rohatgi and Monika Bedi also got a fair chance to shake their legs in the finale. Debojit Saha’s melodious voice was put to good use by the producers.

Rahul Mahajan won the title for ‘Sabse Bada Dilwaala’ and is now the proud owner of a new car launched by General Motors. He was chosen by the housemates themselves. Rahul was put into the tight spot when Shilpa tried to know the future of his relationship with Monika. When it got too uncomfortable for him, Shilpa didn’t prod any further and gave respect to his privacy.

Ravi Kissen, the first runner up of Bigg Boss season 1 came to the house of Bigg Boss to boost the morale of this season’s finalists. Ravi Kissen looked very different in his new look. He has become fat and the unshaven face was not vey appealing.

The housemates were taken aback by this surprise as they were casually enjoying a party thrown by Bigg Boss. They gave him a warm welcome and Raja in particular was very excited. Ravi knew him before he became a part of the show as Raja himself has produced a couple of unknown Bhojpuri films. It was Ravi’s first meeting with Zulfi Syed and Ashutosh Kaushik.

Ravi danced with the housemates and he looked quite weird with that beard and this image makeover. One of the housemates even commented on his somewhat white stubble, he said that he was growing older. The contestants and Ravi kept talking till around two at night. Most of their discussion centered on the life inside the house and how it changes after leaving the house. He explained that all the bonds which are forged inside the house are soon forgotten. People don’t even make an effort to message their fellow housemates and it’s a classic case of ‘Out of sight and Out of Mind’. All the people move on and don’t get the time to look back and remain friends with the people they met on the show.

‘Life comes in a full circle’. The countdown for the JUMBO FINALE has begun and three finalists are being made to perform one of the most entertaining tasks of Bigg Boss Season 2 once again. The only difference is that earlier this task was executed by eleven housemates and now its only three members doing the student-teacher act.

Ashutosh Kaushik is still the principal of the ‘Paathshaala’ and Zulfi Syed and Raja Kaushik are the students. Ashutosh had to teach all the subjects to the class. He is definitely a poor replacement for Debojit Saha, the teacher who earlier taught music and Payal Rohatgi who was a sizzling dance teacher.

Ashutosh was asked to teach a poem of Shakespeare to the class ‘Fear No More’.  A beautiful and emotional poem became totally hilarious when Ashutosh gave his interpretation of the poem. The difficult words were nicely related to the common Hindi words and that completely changed the meaning of the sentence.

big-boss-school-class

Zulfi, in particular kept pulling his leg by asking meaning of all the words to hear Ashutosh’s creative version. It was a rib tickling session and the best part was when he purposely fell down trying to show the exhaustion of teaching such difficult subjects. He nicely enacted his role of a Principal and added a lot of humor to simple sentences.

Nostalgia is in the air of Bigg Boss house these days. The last week is a hard time for the housemates as they are flooded with memories of the time they spent in the house. Bigg Boss tried to bring back the memories which had almost faded by specially putting together various shots of the good and the bad times the housemates spent. It was shown to the boys and who watched it in pin drop silence as the past was flashing back in front of their eyes.

The trip down the memory lane aroused a lot of sentiments in the boys. They later joked that Bigg Boss had been a little biased in only putting the good things in that video. They even wanted to watch the ‘not so good’ times which were spent in bitching about each other and hatching conspiracies. The impact of that video was so much that a greater part of the day went in discussing their favorite shots and how all the housemates looked so different in front of camera.

Bigg Boss didn’t want to lose out on this opportunity when the housemates looked overwhelmed with emotions. The finalists were given another task based on the moments spent in the past. The boys had to recall three instances from their stay of ninety four days which are memorable and special for them.
